Sarawak State Issues Fatwa Against the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light

On the 10th of April, 2026, the official Gazette of the Sarawak State Government, Malaysia, has published a document called Fatwa Ruling on the Teaching of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
The contents of the fatwa are essentially identical to the contents of the 2024 fatwa issued by the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI) Muzakarah Committee. In both of them, a description of the teachings of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light deemed heretical by the Malaysian Sunni-based Syariah is made, followed by a series of decrees that can be summarized as follows:
“It is forbidden to believe, teach, spread, practice, follow or act on behalf of The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, Followers of this faith must repent for holding this belief, All materials promoting The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light are banned, and All Muslims must adhere to the state-sponsored Ahli Al-Sunnah Wa al-Jama’ah creed.”
Since the 2024 publication of the National fatwa against AROPL, the States have been holding meetings to discuss and utlimately replicate the National Fatwa on a State level. According to the Bishop of Malaysia, the presence or absence of a State fatwa does not affect the status of The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in Malaysia. Members of the faith can be persecuted in all the 13 states and 3 federal territories of Malaysia based on the MKI 2024 Fatwa, which encompasses the entire nation on a federal basis.
However, it is expected that all the Malaysian states will eventually echo the national Fatwa and issue a state-level Fatwa against The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
It is believed that the publication of this fatwa by the State of Sarawak may have been prompted by the missionary work of the Malaysian believers in The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, especially the raising of banners with the full text of the Holy Will of Prophet Mohammed in several Malaysian states amidst the celebrations of the Festival of the Will 2026.
The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light strongly condemns this outrageous violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to freedom of religion and belief. Malaysia must immediately cease these oppressive measures against members of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light and uphold the basic rights and freedoms of all people.
What ever they do, they will never stop us.

Freedom of belief and expression is a fundamental human right; how can anyone suppress it? Imagine it's not a person, but a state
We cannot allow that. , Malaysia must immediately cease these repressive actions against the followers of the Ahmedi religion of Peace and light and respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people. Faith is not a crime
