Malaysia Renews Pledge To Target AROPL

On the 1st of January 2026, the Deputy Inspector-General of the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM), Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, gave a press conference whereby he declared that
“Heresy is one of the threats to national security, in addition to the issue of corruption involving civil servants.”
His statement seemed to focus more on the heresy than the corruption issues. He stated that
“A total of 14 heretical teachings were detected still active, while eight were being monitored by the authorities”.
He also declared that:
“Among them is the Last Dream Journey, Dewan Perkasa Islamic Economy, Millah Abraham, Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah, The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light,”
This statement appears to be timed to show the people of Malaysia that the authorities are active in keeping them safe from the dangers of corruption and heresy while the people were more or less asked to assist the government in monitoring the situation on the ground through a system called Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP).
He then stated that:
“PDRM will take strict action against the issue of corruption within its own citizens because integrity is the main key to regaining the community's full trust in the security forces,”
This means that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will take care of the corruption within the civil services but they may require the assistance of the people to eliminate the “heretical” movements on the ground. This mobilisation of the population against beliefs which the government deems to be unacceptable will probably lead to further detainment of people in Malaysia who adhere to a belief system different from the state sanctioned belief systems. The Malaysian authorities seem to consider the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light a greater threat to the welfare of the local population than the corruption within the civil services.
As we have seen over the past few years, the Malaysian authorities have detained a number of believers in the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light simply for sharing their beliefs with their immediate family members. This persecution has not gone unnoticed by the UN and human rights organisations like Amnesty International.
It seems 2026 will bring further impetus for the world to see the oppression of believers in The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light according to the Malaysian second in charge of the Royal Malaysian Police force. This press conference attracted a very large audience.
