At the United Nations Human Rights Council under Item 9 (Racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance), CAP Freedom Human Rights delivers a powerful statement highlighting the arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and reported torture of members of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in Egypt.
From March to April 2025, coordinated arrests targeted peaceful believers solely for their religious identity. Detainees were denied access to lawyers and families, subjected to severe ill-treatment including electric shocks, and held under vague charges designed to suppress religious diversity. This blatant religious intolerance directly contradicts the Durban Declaration and international obligations to combat hatred and discrimination.
CAP Freedom urges Egyptian authorities to:
• Immediately release all detained members
• End the persecution of religious minorities
• Investigate all allegations of torture
• Uphold equal protection and human dignity for all
Freedom of religion and belief must be protected. No one should face detention, torture, or discrimination because of their faith.
