Six Azeris Arrested For Raising Banners in Baku

UPDATE: April 24th 2025 In a show of solidarity with the detained believers in Baku, nine individuals—Hessam Khatib, Jamal Naaman, Ashur Badalov, Anar Alakbarov, Rustam Qasimli, Hidayat Nasrullayev, Radiq Azmammadov, Amrah Abbasov, and Nicat Khalilov—held a peaceful protest on April 24th outside the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Berlin (Hubertusallee 43, 14193 Berlin). The demonstration took place from 10:00 to 11:30 and called attention to the ongoing persecution of members of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in Azerbaijan. The group stood united in demanding the immediate release of those arrested in Baku and an end to the suppression of religious freedom.
April 21st 2025 - A group of six Azeris took to the streets of Baku, raising banners proclaiming "The Mahdi has appeared" at the Jafar Jabbarly Square. Their missionary efforts are courageous, given the past human rights violations against members of the faith in Azerbaijan, including the arrest and torture of two individuals last year for distributing flyers.
The protesters, identified as Hasan Javadov, Sani Hasanov, Fagan Rahimov, Sahib Mirzayev, and Teymur Aliyev and Konul Demirova, faced immediate scrutiny from law enforcement. Several plainclothes police officers monitored the demonstration, and shortly after, two uniformed officers intervened, forcefully removing the banners and arresting the participants. As of now, the members remain in custody and their wherebouts are still unknown. The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light strongly condemns this act of repression against our member's peaceful expression of their faith.
